This demonstration is presented by Dean Lind: an avid tomato and vegetable gardener who has been gardening in the Tri-Lakes area for over 30 years. “I’ve been been growing up here against Mount Herman for 30 years, and I haven’t learned my lesson yet!”, says Dean Lind.

Watch as Dean gives you tips for success and learn how to beat the elements for a successful tomato-growing season. Dean grows big “roma” tomatoes in order to can and to make salsa. He does plant a few plants for eating tomatoes.

Common tomato-growing questions that Dean addresses in this video:

  • How do you start your tomato plants, and when do you begin transplanting?
  • How do you care for your tomato plants?
  • When do you typically start planting?
  • How do you protect a tomato plant once it is planted?
  • How do you protect tomato plants from wildlife?
  • How do you make your own compost?

Closing advice from Dean: “Plant enough for the animals, plant enough for the weather, and if you’re lucky you get one-third for you!”
