Anyone else curious what the Garden Trends for 2025 are? I personally believe that there is never a type of gardening that will go out of style. And I believe that your garden is as unique as you are! But each year I’m always curious what is trending in the gardening world. I think it’s fun to get a preview of what is gaining popularity and what we might see more of this year.
So far trends for 2025 include…
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly. Practices like using Native Plants or ‘Nativars’ (cultivated varieties of native plants) and Water-Wise Landscaping is trending. I’d like to argue that these have always been trends in Colorado, but glad it’s trending elsewhere too!
Personal Well-Being and Mindful Gardening. The trend here is to encourage gardening as a digital detox, which I am all for! In the gaming world, being told to “go touch grass” implies that the person needs to get some fresh air and experience the real world. I can certainly vouch for the therapeutic nature of plants, and I also like the idea of telling my kids to “go touch a plant” in the future.
Naturalistic and ‘Chaos’ Gardening. Finally, sounds like my style of gardening is trending and ‘Chaos Gardening’ has a nice ring to it! There’s a growing appreciation for gardens that mimic a more natural or wild landscape. Now instead of stressing that my garden needs manicuring, I can feel trendy instead!
Green Drenching. Green drenching is based on the design trend of color drenching, which involves creating a living space with a monochromatic color scheme to reduce visual noise. In green drenching, you use plant leaves to create a wall of green hues indoors or outdoors. As someone who really appreciates great foliage, I’m really loving this one!
Bold Colors and Textures. Bold colors and textures are making a comeback. Garden Media Group (GMG), a public relations company serving the nursery industry, has named teal its 2025 Color of the Year. Bright pops of color, whether from flowers or furniture, are the color trend for 2025.
Living Fences. Living fences are trending as a good way to add both personality and privacy. And with many of us living in HOA’s that don’t allow wooden privacy fences, this can be a great alternative. Consider planting Lilacs, Cheyenne Privitt or even Columnar Buckthorn to create a privacy hedge. Or use a free-standing trellis covered with vines to make an intimate seating area.
